copyright

Copyright

Copyright laws in the United Kingdom state that proprietors, the owners, have the right to protect and preserve their intellectual property and control how it is distributed and used.

Having the right type of intellectual property protection helps you to stop people stealing or copying any of the following; names of you products or brands, things you have invented, the design or look of your products, things you might right down, things you make or things you may produce.

The things that count as intellectual property:

-If you created it

-Brought intellectual rights from a previous owner

-Have a brand that could be trademarked

Intellectual property can have more than one owner for example if multiple people had the same idea and came together to make one product then they would all be deemed intellectual property over that product. It can also be sold or transferred to another person in the case of a death or retirement.

Copyright laws
Copyright is the law that give the owner of a work to say how others could use it. Also have to pay to use it.

Copyright cases
I have found two examples of huge companies getting copyrighted;

Microsoft vs apple- companies initial argument was form the question  who invented the graphical user interface? The company that controls the interface of the next major operating system will have the ability to set the standards for application software, so it’s unsurprising that Apple tried to stop Windows from becoming a major operating system

Gucci vs guess- In 2009 Gucci sued Guess for infringing on five Gucci trademarks, including the use of similar logos. This is perhaps unsurprising given that Guess has been subject to 12 copyright complaints over the last ten years.

Things i need to take into consideration in terms of copyright whilst making my short film:

  • Using music in the background of my film as I will need to check with the producers/ artists before i use the music and i amy also have to pay to use it in the film.
  • Also logos some logos are copyrighted so if i was using a shop I would have to check with them first that that's okay to use their shop some shop[s such as big brands or big businesses i might have to pay copyright commission too.
